9. Donn Clendenon, First Base, New York Mets
After not appearing for the Amazin’ Mets at all in their NLCS victory over the Atlanta Braves in 1969, Donn Clendenon belted three home runs for New York in the 1969 World Series against the Baltimore Orioles.
The most important of Clendenon’s clunkers came in Game 5 with the Mets trailing 3-0 and Cleon Jones controversially on first base after a reversed call. Clendenon’s two-run shot triggered a New York comeback and an eventual Series-clinching 5-3 Game 5 victory.
