Last week, St. Louis rookie Michael Wacha and Boston third-string closer Koji Uehara won their respective leagues LCS MVP awards, further adding to the list of unheralded players who became October’s Very Own.
Wacha became the third rookie to win a LCS MVP Award by going unscathed for a 0.00 over two starts, in a series that twice saw him outlast Cy Young frontrunner Clayton Kershaw. Meanwhile, Uehara made five scoreless appearances for Boston, including three saves, in the Red Sox ALCS triumph over the Detroit Tigers.
With the League Championship Series in the rear mirror, it’s time for the game’s great unknown’s to become legends on baseball’s grandest stage. Both of the teams in this year’s Fall Classic give us a plethora of options to one-up Wacha and Uehara by joining the elite club of fringe players who became stars in the World Series.
