Album: Escondido- The Ghost of Escondido (2013)
Based in Nashville, TN, this duo has not been together long but their chemistry is undeniable. The name Escondido derives from a small city concealed in a valley in Southern California and you can feel that southwestern influence throughout their music.
Jessica Maros and Tyler James make up the band. They first met when Tyler was recording for a mutual friend. During a break, he caught Jessica playing around with a song, and while no one else was in the room he recorded her. After adding a few touches and listening back, they decided to make a record. Only in Nashville can this happen. The songs were written in two months and the album was recorded in one day. The process seems fast and the sound is a bit rough, but emotion comes pouring out of each song and you can’t help but to connect.
Imagine John Wayne covering Mazzy Star: Their sound is unlike anyone else you’ll hear right now. It’s the season of change, and The Ghost of Escondido is the perfect album to get wrapped up in as the leaves begin to turn color and the crisp Fall air sets in. Do yourself a favor and pick it up.
