Bengals 41- Browns 20
The Browns jumped out to a 13-0 lead after two Joe Haden interceptions one of which he returned for a touchdown. The Bengals responded with a few forced turnovers of their own and 31 unanswered points, adding to their cushion in the AFC North. But if the Bengals are being honest with themselves, the Browns threaten their chance to win the division like the way Chloe Kardashian threatens Kim’s relationships.
Eagles 24- Redskins 16
Nick Foles and LeSean McCoy lead the Eagles to the divisional lead with their first home win. After losing their first four home games, the Eagles finally won at Lincoln Financial Field. Chip Kelly kept the Eagles faithful waiting to see a win live in the regular season longer than Andy Reid kept them waiting in NFC Championship games.
Steelers 37- Lions 27
The Lions could have gotten a strangle hold on the NFC North with a win over the Steelers but instead they allowed Ben Roethlisberger to lead his team to their best offensive game in two years. The Lions, even though they remain in contention to win the division still seem to find the most creative ways to lose games. What was the big moment that turned this game around? Was it a Jim Schwartz blunder? Was it a Ndamukong Suh personal foul? The momentum changing play came when the Lions put the ball in the hands of their biggest play maker on fourth down, Sam Martin, the place holder. Putting the ball in the hands of you holder when you need a big play is like calling your mom when you need a good wing man.
Buccaneers 41- Falcons 28
The Buccaneers dominated the Falcons with huge performances from Bobby Rainey, and Mike Glennon. Oh, my apologies for not explaining further, Rainey plays running back and Glennon plays quarterback. Glennon completed 20 of 23 pass attempts with two touchdowns, while Rainey rushed for 163 yards and two touchdowns. While both break out performances were impressive if only one player can be the real deal, both Andy Dalton and I vote for Glennon so I have a new quarterback to make fun of for looking fortunate.
Cardinals 27- Jaguars 14
The 1-9 Jaguars were just what the doctor ordered for the Cardinals to keep pace in the playoff hunt. Carson Palmer threw for 419 yards and two touchdowns including 193 yards and a touchdown to second year wide receiver Mike Floyd. I was lucky enough to play with Floyd in high school and not to add insult to injury to Jaguars but that was pretty his stat line back then too.
Saints 23- 49ers 20
Sean Payton showed immense faith in his kicker, who missed four out of six field goals in the last three games to win this game in the fourth quarter. Garrett Hartley converted three high pressure field goals, one as time expired to lift the Saints over the 49ers. This comeback performance by Hartley would have inspired the rest of his teammates heading into the home stretch of the season, you know, if kickers were considered real football players.
Broncos 27- Chiefs 17
The Broncos pulled ahead of the Chiefs in the AFC West as both teams are now 9-1 after Sunday night. The Chiefs formidable defense could not put any pressure on Peyton Manning all night and Broncos cruised to an enormous win. Manning never got sacked, and was only hit twice which gave the Broncos a huge advantage as Manning could throw from a pocket bigger than Jerry Jones’ cargo pants.
