Heading into the Masters this week, there will be 13 LIV Golf stars competing in the prestigious tournament, and it sounds like they think there’s a strong chance one of them will win the championship.
During a press conference this week, Brooks Koepka made it clear that he thinks based on the number of LIV Golf stars in the field, there’s a good chance that one of them comes away with the victory this year.
“I don’t know, obviously chances are pretty good,” Koepka said according to ESPN. “There’s a lot of good players. I don’t know how many guys are in the field. Usually about 90, right? Usually about 90 [it’s 88 this year]. So, you know, probably got, what, 15%?”
There were questions last year about whether or not the LIV Golf players would remain competitive after playing in a different format with fewer holes at LIV, but with three LIV Golf stars finishing in the top five of the final standings, they seemed to silence a lot of those doubters.
“I think the outside perception was definitely that these guys have gone away and they’re never going to be able to play competitively again,” LIV Golf’s Cameron Smith said. “I guess our performance at the Masters definitely kind of turned a lot of heads.”
2017 Masters champion Sergio Garcia echoed that sentiment.
“I think that was something that, you know, some people came with to try to kind of take credit away from us, [by] saying that we’re all done,” Garcia said. “I think it’s been proven the other way, so I think people don’t look at it that way anymore. They realize that we can still play and play really well.”
We’ll have to see if one of them can win the Green Jacket.
