Due to the exclusivity and the unique format of LIV Golf, it has not been recognized by the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR), making it impossible for many LIV Golf players to earn their way into prestigious events like the Masters. And LIV Golf star Jon Rahm thinks
After winning the Masters last year, Jon Rahm does not have to worry about qualifying for any major tournaments for the next five years, which factored into his decision to leave the PGA Tour in the first place. But he thinks that there should be a path for all players to earn their way into major tournaments like the Masters.
“There’s gotta be a fair way for everybody on whatever tour to play and compete,” Rahm said this week according to ESPN. “There’s got to be a way for some players to earn their way in.”
LIV Golf had been seeking recognition from the OWGR since the league began more than two years ago, but the Saudi-backed league withdrew its application last month after it was not approved.
So if LIV Golf stars are going to qualify for major tournaments, they’re going to have to do it in a way that doesn’t involve earning OWGR points from LIV events.
