After failing to lay down a bunt in two consecutive attempts, Los Angeles’ Juan Uribe joined a long list of unlikely postseason heroes Monday night by catapulting the Dodgers into the National League Championship Series with an eighth-inning go-ahead two-run home run, which scored the Division Series-clinching run for L.A.
Some of the game’s biggest stars have cemented their all-star and hall of fame legacies by shining on the October stage, but a whole other group of players have risen from obscurity to household names (at least for a few weeks) by the flipping the postseason script.
With his titanic two-run blast, Uribe has put himself in the running for most random postseason contributor of 2013, with many other unheralded players gunning to take the crown. For whatever reasons, the Championship Series in both leagues tend to turn scrubs (#startedfromthebottom) into October’s Very Own (#nowwehere) more so than any other round.
