4. Marco Scutaro, Second Baseman, San Francisco Giants
Marco Scutaro came over to the Giants in a July 2012 trade from the Colorado Rockies and proved to be an invaluable acquisition for the eventual World Series champions. Prior to his trade to the Giants, Scutaro failed to find a home, playing stints as a utility infielder with the Mets, Athletics, Blue Jays, Red Sox and Rockies.
Scutaro was red hot for the Giants in the team’s seven-game NLCS triumph over the Cardinals by batting .500 and scoring six runs, tying the LCS record for hits with 14. Scutaro’s memorable series did not go without controversy though, as in Game 2, St. Louis outfielder Matt Holliday’s takeout slide into second base was deemed dirty by some. Scutaro got the last laugh, however, by lining a single to left later in the game that went through Holliday’s legs, allowing three runs to score.
