Album of the Year:
Sara Bareilles – The Blessed Unrest
Daft Punk – Random Access Memories
Kendrick Lamar – Good Kid, M.A.A.D City
Macklemore & Ryan Lewis – The Heist
Taylor Swift – Red
Who should win:
Sully – I’d love for this award to go to Kendrick Lamar because that album is amazing especially for a debut album. As overhyped as it was, Daft Punk’s Random Access Memories should also be a contender. They’re basically the reason for the current disco trend in music. My pick for Album of the Year will be Kendrick Lamar though for sure.
Michael – As much as I loved Daft Punk’s return to the world of music, I have to go with Kendrick’s Good Kid M.A.A.D. City on this one. GKMC was the creamer of realness to the bland cup of coffee that was a watered down mainstream urban music culture at the time of it’s release. It slapped the music industry in it’s face and demanded that it take notice.
Who should be nominated:
Sully – Kanye West – Yeezus. Being nominated for Rap Album of the Year isn’t enough for an incredible album that pushed so many boundaries like Yeezus.
Michael – Disclosure- Settle– An hour long collection of mesmerizing and captivating electronic, house and pop dance sounds, Settle is everything that I look for in a complete album that will withstand the test of time. It brought credibility back to an electronic music culture that was quickly becoming watered down with sounds that had no consideration for the same dance and house was successful before it.
Who Will Win:
Sully – Macklemore & Ryan Lewis – The Heist
Michael – Macklemore & Ryan Lewis- The Heist
