Best Rap Performance:
“Started From the Bottom” – Drake
“Berzerk” – Eminem
“Tom Ford” – Jay Z
“Swimming Pools (Drank)” – Kendrick Lamar
“Thrift Shop” – Macklemore & Ryan Lewis
Who Should Win:
Sully – This is a category full of heavy hitters, any of them can deservingly walk away with this award. I think Drake’s “Started From the Bottom” is a very lazy track but you’ll catch me singing it all the time, it’s catchy! It’s great to see the older rappers, Eminem and Jay Z, come back hard this year. Both rappers dropped solid albums with great singles too. In the end, the person who should walk away with this award is Kendrick Lamar, everything he’s done has been gold.
Michael – Kendrick Lamar- Swimming Pools (Drank)– See “Record Of The Year”
Who Should Be Nominated:
Sully – “Chum” – Earl Sweatshirt – I love this track and really enjoyed this album even though I’m sort of over the whole Odd Future thing. This is such a great track with incredible flow and rhymes, which isn’t anything new for Earl.
Michael – “Power Trip” – J Cole (ft. Miguel)- This is one of those rare tracks that as soon as you hear the first couple seconds of it, you instantly become overjoyed with musical excitement. A song that centers around a love story, is laced with self-aware lyrics, and carries with it a piercing and infectious chorus, “Power Trip” is a timeless track that will long be considered a highly successful mainstream hit single.
Who Will Win:
Sully – “Thrift Shop” – Macklemore & Ryan Lewis
Michael – “Started From The Bottom”- Drake
