After months of negotiations, the May 2nd fight between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather was officially approved by both camps on Wednesday.
The reasons for the delay in approval were numerous. In addition to differences over ticket allocation, hotel arrangements and fight credentials, the two hadn’t even signed an agreement on hosting the fight at the MGM.
However, it appears that both sides have agreed to terms and that means that tickets will be made available to the public. Of course, “available” doesn’t mean that they’re going to be cheap or easy to find. Far from it.
Per TIME, the face value of tickets to the Pacquiao-Mayweather bout won’t come cheap.
Now that the parties have reached an accord, tickets for the fight will be made available to the public. Tickets will cost as much as $7,500 and as little as $1,500, according to Yahoo Sports.
As for how widely available tickets will be, the New York Daily News estimates that there may be less than 1,000 tickets that will be available to the general public:
Less than 1,000 tickets are likely to go on sale to the general public, ranging in face value from $1,500 to $7,500.
Unsurprisingly, ticket sales records are bound to be shattered by the fight:
The MGM is scaled to seat around 16,800 fans and is projected to produce a gate of around $74 million, more than three times the previous record.
Suddenly the $90-100 charge to watch the pay-per-view fight on television looks like a real steal.
