Over the weekend, Opelika quarterback Jake Bentley received a little break on this play against the Enterprise Wildcats. On a pass play in the red zone, Bentley and wide receiver Jaleel Heard appeared to experience some confusion, as Heard stopped on his route as Bentley let the ball go towards the end zone.
The ball was then almost corralled by an Enterprise defender who launched himself at the spot of the ball. However, the defender bobbled the ball on his way to the ground and Heard was able to scoop up the football while it was in the air and roll himself for a touchdown.
While Bentley may have been the recipient of some good fortune on that particular play, his success on the field is not a fluke. Opelika would go on to win the game by a score of 44-27 and and they are currently undefeated this season. As for the quarterback himself, Bentley is reportedly one of the most promising high school quarterbacks in the country, having already received offers from places like Miami, Auburn and Stanford.
Basically, it pays to be lucky and good.
