Rumors are circulating that Apple is considering extending their AirPlay service to TV manufacturers. AirPlay allows iTunes, iPad, iPhone, and iPod users (iOS 4.2 or greater required) to stream audio to the Apple TV and 3rd-party devices that are being licensed by Apple.AirPlay’s existing video streaming capabilities have been limited to the Apple TV via the YouTube or iPod app. If Apple chooses to extend the AirPlay license to TV manufacturers, which I believe they most certainly will, users will be able to stream video content from their iDevices to their television set without something like the Apple TV acting as a middleman. Apple has been on a mission to become an integral part of the home entertainment experience, and this marks as another likely move for them to get a place on your couch.
