Edmonton winger Taylor Hall did not appear to be having fun during the Oilers’ 3-1 home loss to Minnesota on Thursday, therefore elected to liven things up with a ballsy hit on the Wild’s Cal Clutterbuck.
The cheap shot to Clutterbuck’s knee occured with less than three minutes remaining in a two-goal game, immediately drawing a game misconduct and less-than-inviting reactions from the Wild players.
“It’s unfortunate,” Hall said after the game. “You never want to see a guy sitting there on the ice. My first thought was I looked around to see if there was a penalty and obviously there was. I really didn’t feel it was knee on knee at all. I really felt like I got him with my hip or torso area.”
The third-year player has a 2:30 ET hearing today, with the one-sided discussion likely resulting in Hall writing a check to the league office and possibly facing a one-game suspension for the blatant disregard for player safety.
But a bigger issue might be during their rematch March 3rd in Saint Paul. Good luck buddy.
