Down 5-0 to the Ducks in the second period of Sunday night’s game in Anaheim, Hurricanes defenseman Andrej Sekera was clearly fed up and decided to take things into his own hands. And by that, I mean he refused to pass to anybody else on the ice until Carolina scored their first goal.
With about five minutes left in the second, Sekera gathered a loose puck in the offensive zone and decided he wasn’t giving it up. About 24 seconds later – after a flurry of impressive dekes and tight moves, especially from a defenseman – Sekera managed to put the ‘Canes first tally on the board.
While it was a solid display of creation from one individual, it wasn’t exactly the great puck movement and team play a coach loves to see from his guys. That being said, nothing else was clearly working for Carolina Sunday night so maybe ‘Canes coach Kirk Muller was willing to overlook the selfishness from his d-man.
Carolina would add two more before losing 5-3.
