Josh McCown and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers suffered a depressing defeat to the Chicago Bears on Sunday and the Tampa Bay Times has had enough.

The newspaper ran this headline begging the Bears to take back their former backup. The Bucs had signed McCown to a two-year deal worth $10 million over the offseason. The deal hasn’t paid off. In six games played for the Bucs this season, McCown sports a 1-5 record. He’s averaging 225 passing yards per game and he’s only thrown for seven touchdowns against eight interceptions.
In the game against the Bears, McCown struggled mightily. While he did pass for 341 yards, McCown only completed 25 of 48 pass attempts and he threw two interceptions to one touchdown.
You know things are bad when the Tampa Bay press is pining for Mike Glennon of all people. The worse news for McCown is that such a move may not be outrageous. In six games played this season, Glennon is averaging 262.3 passing yards per game and he’s thrown 10 touchdowns to six interceptions. And while Glennon is 1-4 as a starter this season, he’s younger and he has potential to get better, something which one can’t necessarily say about the 35 year-old McCown.
