With future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers healthy and back in the starting lineup this season, New York Jets are hoping to contend for a Super Bowl. But if that’s going to happen, it’s going to take excellence from everyone on the roster, and it seems like one player is noticeably struggling.
According to a report from New York Jets reporter Rich Cimini of ESPN, New York Jets center Joe Tippmann struggled to snap the ball to Aaron Rodgers during Monday’s practice. Cimini reports that Tippmann was responsible for “about a half-dozen off-target shotgun snaps” during the practice.
Cimini reports that Tippmann has struggled with his snaps all throughout training camp and even went off to the side and practiced snapping the ball with Rodgers and a coach, but the problem still remained.
New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh has taken notice of the issue and has made it clear that Tippmann has to figure it out.
“Yeah, he has to work on it,” Saleh said. “There’s clearly something going on.”
Obviously, it’s pretty concerning that the team’s starting center does not seem able to reliably snap the ball to the quarterback. We’ll have to see if the problem gets corrected before the start of the season.
