The Pittsburgh Steelers have made it pretty clear that Russell Wilson is in the “pole position” in the offseason quarterback battle and is the favorite to win the starting job this season. But that doesn’t mean the team hasn’t been impressed by what they’ve seen from Justin Fields after adding him via a trade with the Chicago Bears.
During a recent appearance on 93.7 The Fan, Pittsburgh Steelers general manager Omar Khan had some high praise for Justin Fields as he made it clear that he is both a great player and a great person.
“We really liked Justin coming out of college. He had an up-and-down situation in Chicago, and the opportunity was there to get him, and I’m excited. He’s really looked awesome. He’s a great individual, too. I didn’t know him personally until he got here. What a special person he is,” Khan said.
Things did not work out between Fields and the Chicago Bears last season. Even though Fields had the best and most successful year of his professional career, the team decided to select former USC Trojans quarterback Caleb Williams in the NFL Draft to replace him, trading him to the Pittsburgh Steelers instead.
Even if he doesn’t start for the team, it’s clear that they are happy to have him anyway.
