After three seasons, the Chicago Bears decided to move on from starting quarterback Justin Fields, trading him to the Pittsburgh Steelers before selecting Caleb Williams with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. And with Fields now on his way out of Chicago, one of his former Bears’ coaches had a particularly brutal review of the way Fields performed.
In an anonymous quote to independent long-form journalist Tyler Dunne, one Chicago Bears coach absolutely blasted Justin Fields for his processing ability, saying that the quarterback’s eyes are “all over the place” and that his play is “hard to watch.”
“Watch his eyes. He tries to see the whole thing and doesn’t see anything. His eyes are all over the place and it’s just really hard to watch. It’s just bad football,” the coach told Dunne anonymously.
Steelers scheme should help. Totally different.
But also from one of Fields' Chicago coaches:
“Watch his eyes. He tries to see the whole thing and doesn’t see anything. His eyes are all over the place and it’s just really hard to watch. It’s just bad football.”

This is obviously an absolutely brutal assessment of Fields’ abilities as a quarterback, and it led to a lot of reactions on social media as a result.
That’s what coaches should do. If a kid has talent your job is to teach and coach the kid. Thats like blaming the students in school not the teacher if their classes fail

Chicago is the place where Quarterbacks come to die! The kid has fixable flaws, but offensive line play was also terrible!

Almost like a coach should be teaching here, not just commenting

So he had all the raw ability and nobody to guide him? Sounds about right

We all saw it. Some just refused to see it.

Hard to believe this with no source.
It's not his intelligence. Could be panic but easily could be scheme/receivers. I think his slower release limited his target options and inhibited this scheme. As far as scheme goes – Raiders OC job should adjudicate Luke Getsy.

Fields is now leaving Chicago and will get a clean start with the Pittsburgh Steelers. It will be interesting to see how he performs with his new team, even if he doesn’t start immediately for the Steelers.
