It has been a long offseason for Justin Fields as he has waited in limbo to hear whether the Chicago Bears would keep him as their starting quarterback or trade him and select a rookie quarterback with the No. 1 overall pick. But it sounds like Fields could be getting a resolution on that matter soon.
According to NFL Draft analyst and insider Tony Pauline of Sportskeeda, the Chicago Bears are “finalizing a deal” that would send Justin Fields to the Atlanta Falcons.
“Word in Indianapolis is the Chicago Bears are close to finalizing a deal which would send former first-round pick Justin Fields to the Atlanta Falcons,” Pauline wrote on Saturday morning.
“It is not known if the deal will be finalized or even announced before the conclusion of the Combine. As I reported on Thursday, if the Falcons can’t come to terms with the Bears for Fields they will turn their attention to Baker Mayfield if he’s available when free agency commences.”
Obviously, this would be a sort of homecoming for Fields after he grew up in the Atlanta area before signing with the Georgia Bulldogs out of high school before ultimately transferring and finishing his college career with the Ohio State Buckeyes.
