A torn Achilles injury is one of the more difficult injuries to recover from for any athlete. And that is exactly what the New York Jets are currently facing with star quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
Rodgers of course suffered the injury in Week 1 of the 2023-24 NFL season, which led to an incredibly disappointing year with inconsistent quarterback play in his absence.
On Tuesday, the team revealed their plan to ultimately get Rodgers back onto the field for the upcoming 2024-25 NFL season, a plan that does not include having the former MVP-winning quarterback participate in the upcoming NFL preseason.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Jets head coach Robert Saleh has outlined Rodgers’ offseason plan, which is “unlikely” to include him playing in the preseason.

This decision can obviously be argued either way. On one hand, Rodgers hasn’t finished an NFL game since the 2022-23 NFL season. So getting in-game reps in the preseason could be valuable for Rodgers as he looks to return to full strength by Week 1 of the regular season.
However, at 40 years of age, Rodgers has seen everything there is to see on the field. If anyone can get away with missing out on preseason reps, it is someone like Rodgers.
Only time will tell whether this decision ends up harming Rodgers and he perhaps looks a bit rusty when he takes the field to start the regular season. But at the very least, he is expected to be fully healthy for Week 1 against the San Francisco 49ers, which has to be promising for Jets fans.
