The Chicago Bears selected Caleb Wiliams with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft on Thursday night, and they’ve already surrounded him with more talent than previous quarterback Justin Fields ever had at his disposal, adding Keenan Allen in free agency and selecting Rome Odunze in the first round. And C.J. Stroud called them out for it.
During an appearance on Bleacher Report’s 2024 NFL Draft Live Show this weekend, C.J. Stroud called out the Chicago Bears for failing to put Justin Fields in a position to succeed and now surrounding Caleb Williams with playmakers and offensive stability.
“I don’t want to throw any shade at the Bears’ front office, but why couldn’t they do that for Justin?” Stroud said according to 247 Sports. “To me, that makes no sense. They couldn’t do this in years prior? No quarterback in NFL history has made three coordinators and two head coaches work. That makes no sense. They are giving Caleb Williams the shot to figure it out with structure and stability, which I love for him. But that’s just confusing to me that they wouldn’t do that for Justin.”
It’s worth noting that Stroud knows Fields quite well – the two played together at Ohio State where Stroud was a backup for Fields during his first season with the team.
