Throughout the majority of the 2023-24 NFL season, it was widely expected that the Chicago Bears would part ways with head coach Matt Eberflus after a third consecutive losing season with the team. But in a pretty surprising turn of events, it doesn’t actually look like that will actually be the case.
According to a report from NFL insider Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Chicago Bears are now expected to retain head coach Matt Eberflus for yet another season with the team.
“After extensive meetings Monday and Tuesday, the Bears are not making a head coaching change and Matt Eberflus offically is expected to return for the 2024 season, per league sources,” Schefter said in a post on X, the social media website that was formerly known as Twitter.

Obviously, this came as quite a surprise to most of the NFL world, leading to quite a lot of reactions on social media as a result.
The Bears played 8 games against teams that finished with a winning record this season.
They went 1-7 in those games. https://t.co/PoHr9VGcfc

The tried and true strategy of a lame duck HC bringing in a new OC AND a rookie QB.
The kinds of moves successful NFL franchises are built upon. https://t.co/spVFsU2MPY

Probably going to hire Frank Reich for OC, draft Caleb Williams, go 5-12, then fire Eberflus and Poles next year leaving Caleb Williams with a new staff in year 2 and learn a new offense https://t.co/ooe4CvKPDH pic.twitter.com/7gfezHiaMN

So if they draft Caleb….he walks into the SAME EXACT situation Trubisky and Fields did, a coach who won't be there much longer and has to learn a new second system in year 2.
This Bears organization continues to be braindead. https://t.co/zjsqXfdaT8 pic.twitter.com/kdg6AmVC0M

In his three seasons with the Bears, Eberflus has failed to lead the Bears to a winning record, though the team did improve from a 3-14 record last season to a 7-10 record this year. We’ll have to see whether or not Eberflus can improve upon that next season.
