The Chicago Bears have seemingly decided to trade quarterback Justin Fields and select USC Trojans quarterback with the No. 1 overall pick in the NFL Draft, but it doesn’t sound like that whole process is going to go as easily, smoothly, or quickly as everyone involved would have hoped.
During a recent appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, NFL insider Adam Schefter explained that he expects the Chicago Bears to select Caleb Williams with the No. 1 overall pick, but in a pretty brutal twist for the Bears, the trade market for Justin Fields is not as strong as the team or Fields expected.
“I’ve said all along that I’d be very surprised if the Bears didn’t go Caleb Williams at one,” Schefter told McAfee. “So what happens to Justin Fields? I don’t think the market for him is as robust as the Bears and he had thought. So that’s going to be interesting to see what they do.”

“I know they talked about hoping to move on from him if they were comfortable with a quarterback in this draft – i.e. Caleb Williams,” Schefter said.
But Schefter thinks there’s a chance that the Fields are unable to find a trade partner for Fields early on in free agency.
“I’ll be curious to see if they can get a deal done in place by next Monday, or they have to wait before some of these other quarterback moves shake out before they can find a home for Justin Fields,” Schefter said.
We’ll have to see what happens, but it’s certainly not an ideal situation for the Bears.
