The Chicago Bears are set to make their preseason debut next week at the Hall of Fame Game in Canton, Ohio against the Houston Texans, and it sounds like the team is still in the midst of deciding whether or not No. 1 overall pick Caleb Williams will make his preseason debut.
Chicago Bears head coach Matt Eberflus has indicated that he does plan for Caleb Williams to play at some point during the preseason, but the team has not yet decided whether or not he will make his debut next week.
“We talked about it, had lengthy conversations about it during that personnel meeting — had it with the coordinators before that,” Eberflus said according to Pro Football Talk. “So, we’ll make a good decision here soon.”
When Williams does see the field for the first time, however, Eberflus indicated that his focus will not change.
“Run game, footwork, and then in the walk-throughs making sure that he controls the pace with him in and out of the huddle, making sure all those reps are good,” Eberflus said. “Those are the two things he’s working on.”
The Bears and the Texans will face off in Canton next Thursday at 8 p.m. We’ll have to see whether or not that includes Williams.
