Throughout his time in college football, Chicago Bears star rookie quarterback Caleb Williams had a knack for making highlight plays with his legs, scrambling out of tight situations, and making unorthodox throws downfield. And it sounds like the Bears are willing to let him do that at the NFL level, too – at least, at the right time.
During a recent press conference, Chicago Bears head coach Matt Eberflus addressed Caleb Williams’ knack for making those sorts of unorthodox plays as he indicated that he doesn’t necessarily want it to happen every play, but he’s glad Williams possesses the ability to create plays like that. He said he wants the young quarterback to “play point guard” and facilitate the ball to the playmakers and then let the “X-factor come out” at the correct time.
General manager Ryan Poles seemed to agree with that way of thinking.
“I think that’s kind of the big thing,” Poles said at his press conference according to Pro Football Talk. “Lean on the guys around him, be instinctual, let those wild plays happen at the right time. We saw it in the preseason a little bit. That’s going to be important.”
Williams obviously has a lot of talent. We’ll have to see how he performs in his first season in the league.
