It’s safe to say that last season did not go the way the Carolina Panthers hoped that it would on a number of fronts with No. 1 overall pick Bryce Young struggling and the Panthers finishing with the worst record in the league. And you can count left tackle Ikem Ekwonu among those who think they need to perform better this season.
During a recent interview, Ekwonu called last season a “very humbling experience” for him and his team as he made it clear that he thinks he needs to be better this season than he was last year.
“I feel like I last year, I didn’t take advantage of the resources that I had available to me. I feel like I kind of just, I guess riding the coattails of that rookie season a little bit,” Ekwonu said, via the team’s website. “I [thought] I was at a place where I, I just wasn’t. So, I wasn’t afraid this year to reach out, ask for some help, go over with the guys. I don’t want to speak on last year too much if I’m being honest, but obviously very humbling experience.”
After the team finished with a 2-15 record, Ekwonu’s feelings are probably consistent throughout the team.
