The Chicago Bears selected former USC Trojans Heisman Trophy winner Caleb Williams with the No. 1 overall pick and named him their starting quarterback before he even took a snap during practice with the team. But it seems like he is struggling a little bit during the early days of practice. But teammate Courtney Cronin does not sound worried.
“I said something to him at the end of practice like, ‘Keep it going. We’re going to keep making you better,’” Byard said according to Courtney Cronin of ESPN.com. “And not necessarily saying he had a terrible day, but days like this are going to make you better.”
These comments from comes after report from Chicago Bears beat writer Nicholas Moreano that Williams was really struggling during practice.
“Really rough day for Caleb Williams and the starting offense. A lot of incomplete passes and near interceptions,” Moreano said in a post on X, the social media website that was formerly known as Twitter.

“In the 7-on-7 period, Williams completed just three passes. Jaylon Johnson nearly had an interception over the middle of the field,” Moreano continued. “In the team period, most of the passes were completed to the flat, and Williams held onto the ball for a long time.”
Moreano did not that Williams was missing two of the team’s top receivers during the practice.
“It’s worth noting that Rome Odunze and Keenan Allen did not participate in 7-on-7s and team. Also, Nate Davis and Darnell Wright were not practicing today,” Moreano said.
But he did have star receiver DJ Moore, who called the practice “frustrating.”
“It’s frustrating, but we also know that we’re learning a new system,” Moore said.
We’ll have to see how Williams bounces back.
