Things have not exactly gone well for Caleb Williams with the Chicago Bears this season, and it sounds like NFL insider Adam Schefter thinks there’s a chance he could be benched.
During an interview on The Pat McAfee Show on Monday, Adam Schefter had some pretty candid thoughts about Caleb Williams as he compared him to Bryce Young, who was benched earlier this year.
“I think the troubling part here is that when you see Caleb on the sideline – they flashed him a couple of times – to me, he looks a little bit like Bryce Young looked at the beginning of the season. He looks a little bit overwhelmed and shell-shocked at what’s going on,” Schefter said.
“They’re at a point now with this team struggling where they have been engaged today in conversations about what is the best way for them to move forward as a franchise and improve as a franchise. I don’t know if they’ve decided on anything right now. I don’t know what they’ll ultimately wind up doing,” he continued.
Schefter said that he would expect that there would be “some kind of change” on the offensive side of the football this season and reported that the possibility of benching Williams is “being discussed.”
“Is that changing the play-caller? Is that changing the quarterback and benching Caleb William for Tyson Bagent?” Schefter asked. “I think all these things are being discussed in the building today, and ultimately the organization has to figure out what is the best course of action for this franchise moving forward.”
Schefter thinks that this move could “protect” Williams, as well.
“You’ve got a great quarterback in Caleb Williams who right now is regressing and getting beat up and starting to look like some of these other quarterbacks have looked. Are they better off going with Tyson Bagent there? Are they better off changing the play-caller there? I don’t know what they’re ultimately going to decide, but I don’t think it will be status quo on the offensive side of the football,” Schefter said.
We’ll have to see whether or not the team does decide to bench Williams.
The Bears have no scored a touchdown in the past two games, so it certainly seems like some sort of change is necessary.
