The Los Angeles Rams lost in the NFC Divisional Round to the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday. Days later, and the Rams’ coaching staff might begin to start taking hits.
Other teams around the league are starting to feel the wrath of offseason attrition. Whether it’s coordinators turning into coaches, or coordinators swapping teams, moves are happening all across the league.
The Rams might have to prepare for another. The Chicago Bears recently hired Ben Johnson as their new head coach. Johnson and the Bears are already starting to assemble their staff, and they’ve zeroed in on a target out west.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that the Bears requested an interview with Rams assistant Aubrey Pleasant.P
Pleasant is familiar with the Midwest to say the least. The Flint, Michigan, native attended Wisconsin and played football from 2005 to 2008. After he went undrafted, he quickly joined the coaching ranks. Pleasant coached at the University of Michigan before he joined Jay Gruden’s staff in Washington in 2013. That year, he was around quite a few future coaches, including Rams coach Sean McVay.
Pleasant, in fact, went on to join McVay in Los Angeles in 2017 as their cornerbacks coach. He then joined the Detroit Lions’ staff and then the Green Bay Packers’. Pleasant than re-joined the Rams in 2023.
Chicago‘s hire of Ben Johnson made a significant mark in the NFL world. The Bears play in an ultra-competitive NFC North, but they now have forward momentum too.
We’ll see if that momentum helps them land Pleasant, or at least an interview.
