The Chicago Bears are heavy favorites to select Caleb Williams with the No. 1 pick in the upcoming 2024 NFL Draft. And if you needed any further proof of that being the case, Bears head coach Matt Eberflus offered some, raving about what he saw in person from Williams’ Pro Day at USC last week.
Williams had very little to prove at his Pro Day in terms of actual production on the field. His film over the course of his collegiate career speaks for itself.
However, one factor that became a bit clearer at the Pro Day is Williams’ relationship with his USC teammates, which appears to be a very close one.
Eberflus took notice of this, raving about what he saw from Williams in terms of leadership with his USC teammates at the Pro Day.
“The biggest takeaway is that you can see the arm talent on the film and you can see it there in person,” Eberflus said via Patrick Finley of the Chicago Sun-Times. “What I loved to see was the interaction with the other players. You can see that, and we talked to every person that was on that team. At the Senior Bowl we interviewed them — and interviewed them at the Pro Day. We talked to those guys at the dinner and you can certainly see those players love him and respect him — and what he’s brought to that program.”
Perhaps the only part of Williams’ resume that was unclear was his ability to lead a team. At USC, the team somewhat disappointed on a team level, which put at least some doubt into his leadership qualities.
However, Eberflus seems to be sold on the leadership of Williams. So it very much seems like Williams will one day be the quarterback of the future for the Bears organization.
