The New England Patriots won the coin toss today — it happens a lot — and opted to give the ball to the Baltimore Ravens first. A kick off and a gorgeous five-play drive later, the Ravens scored the game’s first touchdown.
Offensive coordinator Gary Kubiak, who has refused to interview for any head coaching gigs during the Ravens’ playoff run, called the perfect drive.
On the team’s fifth play, quarterback Joe Flacco faked a handoff to his left, rolled out to his right, and hit an open Kamar Aiken for the first points of the game.
While Flacco has been on quite the postseason run dating back to 2012 (15 TD and 0 INT in six games), that opening drive was all about the play calling. Kubiak quickly followed up that opening drive with a just as impressive second touchdown drive.
The Ravens’ second scoring drive was longer, lasting 12 plays. Again, it culminated in a Flacco touchdown pass — this time to Steve Smith.
