Earlier this week, The Athletic reported that even though the New York Jets were considering going back to Zach Wilson as the team’s starting quarterback, Zach Wilson was reluctant to return to the starting quarterback. And it seems that report has infuriated Aaron Rodgers.
During his weekly appearance on The Pat McAfee Show on Tuesday, Aaron Rodgers was furious at the report, calling out The Athletic for trying to “assassinate someone’s character.”
“When you use sources and whether intentional or unintentional try to assassinate someone’s character like that report does for Zach, I have a real hard time with that,” Rodgers said on the show according to Pro Football Talk. “You’re basically saying that this kid is quitting on the team and doesn’t want to play and is giving the middle finger to the organization.”
Rodgers’ anger was directed toward The Athletic for the report, but also at the New York Jets organization for leaking the information in the first place.
“What is your impetus, what is your motivation to try and bury someone like that?” Rodgers said. “And that’s a problem with the organization. You know, we need to get to the bottom of whatever this is coming from and put a stop to it privately, because there’s no place in a winning culture where — and this is not the only time. There’s been a bunch of other leaks.”
It’s worth noting that Rodgers didn’t necessarily refute the report, he is simply frustrated that the report happened in the first place.
