For a brief period of time, it looked like there was a chance that New York Jets star quarterback Aaron Rodgers was going to walk away from the NFL to pursue a political career as independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. was considering the future Hall of Fame quarterback as his running mate. But it doesn’t sound like Jets team owner Woody Johnson was all that concerned about it.
During a recent interview with Fox News, Woody Johnson had a pretty clear message for his quarterback as he called the political career a “momentary distraction” for Aaron Rodgers and compared it to when Rodgers went into his dark room retreat.
“He is getting back to football 100 percent,” Johnson said according to the New York Post. “He never left football. That was a momentary distraction — maybe like going in the dark room or whatever. But he’s back 100 percent. Great leader. I tell the receivers: ‘You count to 10, hold your hands up and look around, the ball will be there.’”
Rodgers is looking to play his first full season with the Jets this year after he suffered a season-ending Achilles injury on the first drive of his first game with the Jets last year. We’ll have to see how his continued recovery goes.
