Aaron Rodgers Syndication: The Record

It’s safe to say that things have not worked out for Aaron Rodgers with the New York Jets, and it sounds like there’s a real chance that his time with the team – and in the NFL – is quickly running out.

Aaron Rodgers obviously missed all of last season with an Achilles injury and while he returned to the lineup this season, he has certainly not been one of the better quarterbacks in the league.

That combined with his off-the-field drama, his current contract situation, and the instability within the Jets organization leads NFL insider Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk to believe that there’s a very real chance that Rodgers will not be with the team next year.

“There will be a new coach. There might be a new General Manager. Johnson could end up taking a position in the new administration, opening the door for his brother, Christopher, to take over again,” Florio wrote for Pro Football Talk.

“And only days after quarterback Aaron Rodgers said as to the question of whether he still plans to play next year, ‘Yeah, I think so.’ It’s fair to think the Jets won’t want him. His compensation for 2025 isn’t guaranteed. Once the dust settles on a new regime, he could be cut.”

Florio goes on to speculate that if the Jets choose to cut him, no other team in the league would choose to sign him, either.

“Then the question becomes whether someone else will want him. Frankly, what has anyone seen this year to roll the dice with a guy who is about to be 41 and who brings plenty of baggage and distractions? If he was still playing at an MVP level, someone would happily drink the Rodgers Ayahuasca. But he’s not even playing at a middle-of-the-pack starter level. And the team is bad,” Florio wrote.

“And it’s feeling like it’s over for Rodgers.”

Needless to say, this is some pretty horrible news for Rodgers, who had much higher hopes for the end of his career, and it led to a lot of reactions on social media.

“Everything is imploding around him – most likely because of him,” one fan wrote on X.

“Best case for the Jets is that he retires. Otherwise they still eat the cost, just $9.5 million less after June 1st. What a headache,” another fan added.

“He’s just here to collect a check,” another fan speculated.

“He’s beyond washed. Simply not a good qb anymore,” another fan wrote.

“This was his chance to change a narrative and he just proved he’s not enough,” another fan added.

“Time to move on,” another fan said.

It will certainly be interesting to see whether or not Rodgers continues to play next season.
