The Pittsburgh Steelers were forced to wait for what felt like an excruciatingly long time as veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers took his time to decide whether he wanted to call it a career and hang up the cleats or continue playing the sport he’s given so much of his life to.
Ultimately, Rodgers decided to sign with the Steelers just in time to make it to the franchise’s mandatory minicamp. However, in an appearance on the Pat McAfee Show on Tuesday, Rodgers announced that this season is almost certainly going to be it for his career.
“I’m pretty sure this is my last season, and that’s why we did the one-year deal… I’ve played twenty years and I’ve enjoyed it… There’s no better way to finish it than with Mike Tomlin and the Pittsburgh Steelers,” Rodgers said on the show.
Fans reacted to the announcement on social media.
“Sounds like a great way to end,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“I truly hope Aaron Rodgers has a very healthy season and performs well. It’s been a joy to watch Rodgers over the years, the battles between him and Tom Brady will always be great to look back on,” someone else added.
“we are losing all the great goat players every year from 2007 to present NFL won’t be same without NFL goats the OG players,” one fan added.
It’ll be fun to watch Rodgers empty the tank and give the game everything he has left in his final season.
