The twilight zone may be real. It appears that Iowa’s football team was the first person to find it. It only took one play for the college football world to scratch their head in unison. They were completely unsure of what they just saw.
To make matters odder, it was only an onside kick.
After a 15-yard penalty against Illinois that placed the kick off at the fifty-yard line, Iowa decided to try and pull off the unthinkable. An onside kick in a game that they were leading.

Needless to say, the internet went absolutely wild for this and had some fun with this notoriously conservative team.

OMG. Someone finally did it! Iowa kicking off from the 50-yard line, they onside it.
And they got it.

Iowa just did an onside kick and recovered it. I repeat, Iowa just did an onside kick and recovered it. We are in the twilight zone.

Head coach Kirk Ferentz always plays close to the vest and with it, the Hawkeyes are always in tight affairs with their Big 10 brethren. It would be a nice change of pace for himself and the program if he decides to employ the riverboat gambling moniker that Les Miles has taken with him to the broadcast booth.
It is time for him to move into the 21st century. There is no better way than Iowa becoming one of the riskiest teams in all of college football. Think about it, Kirk.
