Rajon Rondo and the Boston Celtics had a very frustrating night in their Game 1 playoff match-up against the Atlanta Hawks. The Hawks jumped out to an early lead and help on to it throughout the game. With under two minutes in the game Rondo didn’t agree with a foul called on Bass which he felt should have been a jump ball, and got in the refs face. The ref gave him an immediate technical foul and Rondo continued to protest, and even bumped into the ref during his pleading. Rondo was ejected directly after the bump. The league office will review the bump tomorrow and the question asked will be if the bump was because Rondo tripped, or if it was intentional. A suspension may or may not happen depending on the league’s review of the incident, but based on NBA rules, he is almost certain to be given a one-game suspension.
Rondo spoke on the incident following the game:
“Obviously I was upset about the call, I said some words to Marc. I deserved the first tech. As I was walking, I thought he stopped. My momentum carried me into him. I even think I tripped on his foot. I didn’t intentionally chest-bump him. But that’s what it appears to be.”
