Seahawks punter Jon Ryan has played in the NFL for nine seasons, the last seven of which have been spent in Seattle. He’s actually the longest-tenured player on the Seahawks roster, making him the lone player who suffered through both a 4-12 season in 2008 (Mike Holmgren’s last season) and a 5-11 campaign in 2009 (the Mora Year). After winning the Super Bowl last year, Ryan has now been present for the worst of the Seahawks and the very best.
Coincidentally, Sunday’s NFC Championship Game found Ryan once again facing his former team, the Green Bay Packers, which Ryan played for in his first two seasons in the NFL. Those first two seasons were also happened to be the first two of Mike McCarthy’s reign as the Packers’ head coach. The Seahawks’ first points of the game came on a touchdown pass thrown by Ryan, who executed a perfect fake field goal. After completing a floater to tight end-turned-tackle Garry Gilliam, the Saskatchewan native immediately turned towards the Packers sideline and did his own version of Aaron Rodgers’ “Discount Double Check” belt celebration.
Not everything about the throw was perfect, as later on he realized — in horror — the epic derp face he put on while tossing the ball.
