Things just can’t seem to go right for the Boston Red Sox in 2015.
The last-place team in the American League East isn’t just struggling on the field. Off-the-field distractions such as Pablo Sandoval’s Instagram use during a game have exemplified the Red Sox’ lack of focus. This time, it’s Hanley Ramirez making headlines.
According to Yahoo! Sports’ Jeff Passan, Ramirez’s attitude has “irked” some members of the Red Sox organization. He’s been slugging at the plate, but his lackadaisical efforts defensively and on the base paths have proven to be an issue. The “Hanley Being Manny” schtick isn’t fun when the team is 10 games below .500 (31-41).
The 31-year-old was signed to a four-year, $88 million deal this past offseason. Yes, his bat has been one of the very few bright spots for the Red Sox this season, but it’s tough to picture him in the team’s future if the homers fail to translate into wins and an upbeat clubhouse.
