Overview:
All eyes will be on Hyun-Jin Ryu tonight as the Dodgers pitcher will try to help Los Angeles take control of the NLDS after not pitching for three weeks due to a sore shoulder. This will also be Ryu’s first time pitching away from home during the postseason. During last year’s NLCS, Ryu pitched well against the Cardinals, securing a win while giving up no runs and only three hits. As for Lackey, he’s had a bit of a tough time since coming to St. Louis from Boston but the man is no stranger to postseason action. While St. Louis is in the comforts of Busch Stadium, expect Ryu’s extended absence to have no effect on his pitching, provided his shoulder doesn’t flare up again.
One wrinkle to think about; Dan Haren, the presumptive Game 4 starter, could see action tonight if Ryu’s stay on the mound is short. That could push Clayton Kershaw to pitch on short rest for Game 4.
