A pretty bizarre scene unfolded during last night’s Tigers-White Sox game in Chicago when Miguel Cabrera was ejected from the contest in the middle of his first at-bat in the top half of the first inning.
In the second pitch of the at-bat, Cabrera was hit on the right knee by a Chris Sale pitch, but home plate umpire Brian Gorman ruled that Cabrera swung on the pitch, resulting in a strike instead of a trip to first base for the Tigers slugger.
After fouling off the ensuing pitch, Cabrera obviously said something that irked home plate umpire Gorman, who sent Cabrera packing mid-AB for the second time this season. Cabrera was not pleased and neither was Tigers manager Jim Leyland, who came out to argue the call and was also eventually ejected.
Talk about a short day at the office.
