Well, this is unusual to say the least. In the bottom of the seventh inning of Kansas City’s game against Tampa Bay yesterday, Kevin Kiermaier absolutely laced a ball right at Eric Hosmer. The Kansas City first baseman failed to catch the scorching liner, though it ended up in Omar Infante’s hands, who threw to first for the out.

At first glance, it appeared that the liner simply deflected off Hosmer’s glove. After the play, Hosmer is noticeably picking at the webbing of his glove which causes one announcer to jokingly say:

Hos checking out that leather. Making sure there are no holes. He thought he had it. Must’ve went right off the end of it.”

It turns out Hosmer had good reason to check out the webbing of his glove, because the ball actually traveled right through it.

Weird.
