Bears 24- Bengals 21
The Chicago Bears bought in Marc Trestman to bring an offensive spark which the Bears lacked under Lovie Smith, but it was the Bears’ big play defense that helped them pull out a win over the Cincinnati Bengals. A critical forced fumble by Tim Gennings and two interceptions for Charles Tillman made Chicago fans forget how much Brian Urlacher impacted their choice between Direct TV and Xfinity.
Titans 16- Steeler 9
Pittsburgh Steelers lost their Pro Bowl center Maurkice Pouncey to an ACL/MCL tear. Ben Roethlisberger was sacked 5 times. Most embarrassing of all, the Pittsburgh Steelers lost the Tennessee Titans. The fans of Heinz Field would have much rather seen Bane take their city hostage while blowing up the field than what they witnessed for the black and yellow on Sunday.
Chiefs 28- Jaguars 2
The Kansas City Chiefs benefited from the grass looking greener in San Francisco and Philadelphia. Andy Reid and Alex Smith both had plenty of success in their last home but both were basically run out of town. Reid and Smith joined Jamaal Charles in KC, where the threesome looked more like the Big Three in Miami, than the Island of Misfit Toys that has surrounded Charles so far in his career. The only thing that was misfit on Sunday in Jacksonville was the Jaguars playing in the NFL.
Rams 27- Cardinals 24
Bruce Arians and Carson Palmer looked at home with The Cardinals despite the loss. Jared Cook and Daryl Richardson looked very much at home starting in St. Louis. The Cardinals picked up where they left off leaning on their intimidating defense. The St. Louis Rams picked up where they left off doing an impression of Dr. House, leaning heavily on one leg of Greg Zuerlein.
Seahawks 12- Panthers 7
Russell Wilson won another game with some late heroics in this close fought battle. In this game Wilson and Cam Newton really showed us how good these two young defenses can be.
Cowboys 36- Giants 31
The Dallas Cowboys forced six turnovers on their way to a season opening win over the New York Giants. Turnovers were the story in Dallas, as in there is a high turnover rate for jobs in the Giants back field. David Wilson started his 2013 season the same he did in 2012, fumbling his way into Tom Coughlin’s dog house.
Broncos 49- Ravens 27
Yes the Ravens defense will need some time to figure out how to play without Ray Lewis and Ed Reed, but Peyton Manning’s seven touchdown passes were more than just taking advantage of a rebuilding defense. Manning’s performance turned more heads than he did during his neck rehab. Not often can every pass catcher have a break out performance in the same game.
