Kentucky was the heavy, heavy, heavy favorite to win the national title, even gaining so much steam that their odds outweighed the entire NCAA Tournament field. However, following Wisconsin’s upset victory in the national semifinal on Saturday, the 38-1 Wildcats ensured they will go down with the 1991 UNLV Runnin’ Rebels and others as one of the best teams to not win a title.
Although many bracketeers correctly picked the Badgers to beat UK and Duke to capture their fifth national title, Kentucky was the overwhelmingly popular choice to at least appear in the title game on Monday night. And apparently even the Lucas Oil Stadium scoreboard crew had already pencilled in the Wildcats for the game.
