Over the past couple of years, there has been a pretty fierce rivalry between the PGA Tour and Saudi-backed LIV Golf, but it sounds like those tensions are easing a little bit as the two sides work toward a sort of alliance. And there will be a pretty clear sign of that this week at the Masters.
According to a report from The Daily Telegraph, LIV Golf representatives have been invited to the Masters for the first time this year, and at least one high-ranking member from LIV Golf will attend the prestigious tournament at Augusta National.
“LIV chief executive Greg Norman is not expected to appear and it remains up in the air whether Yasir Al-Rumayyan – the LIV chairman and governor of the £600 billion Saudi Public Investment Fund which bankrolls the breakaway league – will attend,” James Corrigan of The Daily Telegraph wrote on Monday.
“However, it is understood that at least one high-ranking LIV official will be under the famous oak tree in front of the clubhouse, where the sport’s power-brokers assemble.”
The PGA Tour and LIV Golf are still working toward an alliance that would bring unity back to professional golf, and this is a sign that things could be improving in that regard.
