Scottie Scheffler is currently the top-ranked golfer in the world and one of the favorites to win the Masters this week. But there’s one thing that could keep him from even finishing the tournament – a new baby.
This week, Scottie Scheffler revealed that his wife, Meredith, is pregnant with their first child. Though she’s not due to give birth until the end of the month, he made it very clear that he would leave the tournament “at a moment’s notice” if she goes into labor this weekend.
“As far as her going into labor, I wouldn’t say I’m very concerned,” Scheffler said according to ESPN. “We haven’t seen any of the early signs, but pregnancy is weird. It can happen at any time. Yeah, open lines of communication and she can get ahold of me if she needs to. Yeah, I’m ready to go at a moment’s notice.”
Scheffler finished the first day of the tournament six under par, just one shot behind Bryson DeChambeau on the leaderboard. So if he does have to withdraw as a result of his wife’s labor, it could be quite costly because he’s in a great position to contend for the Green Jacket this weekend.
