The opening round of the Masters is currently underway, with many of the top players on the PGA Tour near the top of the leaderboard early. However, one LIV Golf star stood above the rest on Thursday, dominating en route to a round that was very close to the course record at Augusta National.
Bryson DeChambeau came into this year’s Masters playing some very solid golf with four consecutive top-10 finishes at LIV events. Still, there were questions as to how this would translate against some of the best the PGA Tour has to offer.
The answer early on was that it translated quite well. DeChambeau had an excellent round, starting the event with three straight birdies. Things only got better from there, finishing the round with eight birdies and only one bogey to finish with a 65 on the round, which is good for seven-under-par.

DeChambeau’s performance was perhaps even more impressive when you consider that he has not exactly had the most success at Augusta National in the past. Each of the last two years at Augusta he has missed the cut.
A delay to the opening round means that the round likely won’t conclude before dusk on Thursday. But it sure looks like he will finish the round with the best score on the course, just slightly better than PGA Tour star Scottie Scheffler who has looked quite dominant with two wins in his last three starts leading up to the event at six-under par
It should certainly be interesting to see how DeChambeau fairs throughout the rest of the tournament. But if the top of the leaderboard stays the same by Round 4 on Sunday, we could see a PGA Tour versus LIV Golf battle for the ages between DeChambeau and Scheffler, which would certainly be must-see television for golf fans.
