The Philadelphia 76ers beat the Cleveland Cavaliers on Monday night, giving the tanking Sixers only their fifth win of the season. In a lost season such as this one (albeit on purpose), it might help if Philly fans reminisced over happier days. Like that time Allen Iverson famously stepped back on and over Tyronn Lue in Game 1 of the 2001 NBA Finals.
Despite being the victim of such an embarrassing moment nearly 14 years ago, Lue got the last laugh by winning a ring with that Lakers squad. Lue bounced around seven teams before retiring in 2009, but has since found his true calling, as he’s now the highest paid assistant coach in the NBA after signing a 4-year, $6.5 million deal with the Cleveland Cavaliers back in June. Monday night, Lue found himself standing next to a man wearing a shirt commemorating Iverson’s step-back and step-over, but considering he has a ring and a hefty post-career payday (on top of the $21 million he made as a player), we’re going to assume he doesn’t mind too much.
