The Minnesota Vikings return looking almost exactly like they did when the 2013 season came to a close. The quarterback position is still full of questions, Adrian Peterson is pretty much the entire offense (although Cordarrelle Patterson looks like a star) and the defense is still a question mark. Matt Cassel may be better than any of the quarterbacks who suited up for the Vikings last year but that mark isn’t exactly a high one to clear. The Vikings did bring in Norv Turner to be the team’s offensive coordinator and for all the flack that Turner gets as a head coach, he’s shown that he knows what he’s doing when given control of an offense. Still, the question of whether Cassel can perform or if rookie Teddy Bridgewater can even compete this year loom large over the Vikings. Peterson can only be asked to do so much for the Vikings.
The defense will hope that the addition of Linval Joseph will counterbalance the losses of Jared Allen and Kevin Williams. Head coach Mike Zimmer comes from a defensive background so the Vikings should be well-prepared, even if the talent is a bit lacking. The bottom line is that this is a team that will have a tough time beating their divisional opponents, let alone the rest of the NFL.
